France 2005 Photos

This video was created by four representatives from Highland High School for the HOPE Class of 2012.  It chronicles their journey on what would become a life changing transformation.

I was born in Frankfurt Am Main, Germany.  I guess that's where my love and gift for languages started.  After graduating  from Reedley High School.,  I attended the California State University of Fresno and completed my studies with a degree in German and French and a minor in Spanish.  I finished my Master's Program at the University of California at Santa Barbara.  I am in my 21st year of teaching.

During my free time, I enjoy reading books such as The Hunger Games, James Bond, Harry Potter (in French and in English of course), Criminal Minds, and all sorts of mysteries.  In the past, I have also competed in ballroom dancing competitions.  My travels have taken me to Montreal, London, Lyon and Paris, among other places.  I also have visited the actual Opera Garnier in Paris (where the Phantom of the Opera was "born") and I have been fortunate to meet the actor who  played "The Phantom of the Opera" in the movies.  His name is Gerard Butler.  As he is a Scottish actor, he was presented with a tee-shirt signed by students from Highland.  Gerry (as he prefers to be called) informed me that he loved the gift.

In the summer of 2005, I attended the "L'Alliance Française"  in Lyon through the generosity the Dennis and Anne Beaver Foundation, of a non-profit organization here in Bakersfield.  My goal was quite simple - to improve the quality of my instruction.  I was also fortunate to visit Paris and London that summer.

In the summer of 2006, I attended the University of Laval in Quebec, Canada.  I was indeed lucky to have received a grant to further my French studies.  Once again, my goal was that of improving my pedagogical skills in the French language.  I met teachers of French from around the world (Spain, Germany, Peru and Romania).

My goal as a teacher of French, who also speaks Spanish, is to help every student leaving Highland High School speak two and possibly three languages.  I want every student of mine to realize their full potential.

I am the advisor for the French Club and for the Class of 2014.

In March of 2010, I was very fortunate to receive an autographed mini-French poster from Australian Actor Alex O'Loughlin for his upcoming film "The Back Up Plan."  The title in French is "Le Plan B."

Thank You maryp for the address that I used to get the autograph!

This is a picture of the French DVD Cover for season 3 of the TV series "Criminal Minds."  I have to thank Joe Mantegna for having the enttire cast sign the photo for me.  It is currently on display in my classroom.

This is a picture of the French version of the poster for the movie X-Men Le Commencement.  I waited one year but eventually Michael Fassbender (Magneto in the film) sent this back and autographed it.
